How to Volunteer:

Volunteers are the strength of a community program and the more qualified, caring parents we have the better. We are always in need of great parent coach volunteers. To volunteer for a coaching position, please register here.

All coaches will be subject to background checks and are required by the state of Oregon to take concussion training.

Tips for New Coaches:

Every coach can learn new things, skills and approaches to the game of softball and the proper way to instruct young players. As in any sport there are fundamental elements that require properly executed skills to make the game safe, fun and to provide a growth experience. There are numerous guidelines and handouts created to help the newer coaches create practice plans, teach fundamental skills and prepare the girls for games. Lake Oswego Girls Softball will provide handouts and tools to those coaches to increase consistency in our fundamental approach to softball skills and to ensure each player gains skill and confidence at every practice and during every game.

Pitching & Catching:

These skills are very important to the overall success of any softball team and having players skilled enough to throw and catch strikes appropriate to their age level is crucial to keeping the game fun. Many pitchers and catchers ultimately need the help of specialized coaching and instruction to gain those skills above and beyond those required to play infield or outfield. Where possible Lake Oswego Girls Softball will host clinics to help the younger level players and where necessary find outside resources for those players advancing.

Coaching Clinics:

FREE UPCOMING CLINIC: Lynn Clark Coaching Clinic | March 2nd, 12-4pm @ Garden Home Rec Center

Consistent quality coaching enhances the experience for ALL involved. Players and families expect that coaches be competent in the sport, the rules, and how to teach fundamental skills. They also expect a very high standard of behavior, compassion, and sportsmanship. There are several coaching clinics offered generally in the winter by various college and independent coaches that add to the quality of all aspects of coaching softball. We encourage all coaches to attend at least one of these and in the interest of the program and our players, we demand that coaches be the best they can be. Most clinics are one-day, held at a school or in some cases a hotel facility.
